The WHO Nursing and Midwifery Global Community of Practice is a network for all nurses and midwives around the world. It’s purpose is to create a global network of nurses and midwives using a virtual digital interactive platform. It provides mechanisms to share learning, for mentorship, twinning and access to WHO and other key nursing and midwifery resources. It offers live learning in the form of webinars, masterclasses and live discussions led by experts. It hosts speciality interest sub groups focusing on key global issues for nurses and midwives such as Climate Change, Pandemic resources and midwifery leadership. A key group focuses on supporting Countries to implement the WHO Global Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery.
Its programme and agenda is defined by its users – nurses and midwives at all levels, around the world who contribute to content and highlight issues to discuss. In 2022, a significant work stream will address the issues arising from the pandemic, including lessons to learn and mechanisms of support for the workforce.
The NMCGOP is hosted by the Chief Nursing Office at WHO HQ and is led by the WHO Chief Nursing Officer.
The obective of this session is to raise awareness of the benefits and impact of the WHO Nursing and Midwifery Global Community of Practice and to discuss and identify opportunities for different professional groups to engage with one another through the virtual network.
